Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy for the muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, and nerves is known as musculoskeletal physiotherapy (MSK). The goal of treatment is to reduce discomfort, increase mobility, and restore function as rapidly as possible so that you may return to your normal activities. Ankle sprains, back pain, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia are just a few of the more common musculoskeletal ailments, which can range in severity from the acute to the chronic.

Our highly trained physiotherapists will do a comprehensive evaluation on you in order to determine the source of your discomfort. Afterwards, they’ll deliver pain-relieving and movement-restoring treatment, such as massage, joint mobilisation, acupuncture, electrotherapy, exercise rehabilitation, and many others. A goal-setting session with your physiotherapist is a necessary part of the recovery process. As part of your treatment, you will be given a bespoke home exercise plan, as well as counselling on how to manage your condition and avoid future recurrences.

Common MSK Injuries

Neck:

There are seven vertebrae stacked in the cervical spine, which is supported by muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. The cervical spine. In order to provide support for the head and its motions, safeguard the spinal cord, and improve blood flow to the brain, it is both robust and flexible. Neck discomfort and stiffness that extends to the head or shoulders might be caused by irritation of the cervical spine components.

Neck discomfort and stiffness that extends to the head or shoulders might be caused by irritation of the cervical spine components. It is possible that improper sleeping posture, extended postures (such as sitting for long hours at a desk), repetitive motions, trauma (like whiplash following a car accident), and degeneration (wear and tear as we age) are all factors that contribute to neck discomfort.

Low Back:

Four out of five persons will have low back discomfort at some point in their lives. It is the most common cause of work-related impairment and a primary source of lost time at the office. Acute (lasting less than six weeks), subacute (lasting between six and twelve weeks), and chronic (lasting more than twelve weeks) are the three main classifications. In general, the most common cause of back pain is a simple strain or sprain on the spine’s robust, sturdy, and flexible structure.

Pain in the lower back is caused by a variety of variables that can be both physical and psychological, such as: ‘protecting’ the back and avoiding physical exercise, poor quality sleep, obesity, and lack of physical activity.

Shoulder:

It is fairly normal for people to suffer from shoulder discomfort at some time in their lives. When it comes to the shoulder, there are three bones involved: the clavicle (collarbone), the humerus (upper arm bone), and scapula (shoulder blade). It is the most movable joint in the body since it is a ball and socket joint. A network of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage allows for this enhanced mobility. Soft tissue structures are more vulnerable to injury and dysfunction because of the increased mobility, making them more prevalent causes of shoulder discomfort and dysfunction.

Knee:

Injuries to the knee are quite prevalent, affecting people of all ages. Flexion and extension (bending and straightening) are the primary functions of this hinge joint, which also allows for some rotational movement. The knees are one of the first joints to show signs of wear and tear from daily activity like walking and jogging (osteoarthritis). Allows for smooth mobility and functions as a shock absorption. Osteoarthritis occurs when healthy articular cartilage is degraded by wear and tear.

The knee joint relies on the stability provided by ligaments. Bones are joined together by strong bands of tissue called ligaments. If they are injured, the knee may give way, resulting in a sensation of instability. Athletes and others who engage in strenuous physical exercise are more likely to suffer knee injuries.
